Festival Makeup Tips

My brother and his wife didn’t manage to get Glasto tickets this year, so instead they decided to host a Glasto BBQ. This is basically a regularBBQ, but everyone wears typical festival clothes (wellies of course) and there was a tent and UV face paints in the garden. Now festival makeup has to be light, sweat resistant and glowey (glitter is optional but definitely recommended). Try to keep makeup light purely because it will be less noticeable when it starts to run, smudge or fade, due to excessive wine and of course jumping around wildly waving your arms in the air like you just don’t care.

So as festival season is well and truly upon us, I thought I would share with you all how I got festival ready!
So starting off, what is THE most important thing when going to a festival? More important than glow sticks, your special welly socks and even your flower head band? It’s obviously deodorant. Make sure you invest in a deo that you can trust! I use Mitchum, it’s the only deo that I have 100% confidence in. And you definitely don’t want to be swaying your arms from side to side if you forgot to take your deo.

For my face I love having a squeaky clean canvas! I’ve been using the NAOBAY Moisturizing Peeling Lotion. It’s essentially a facial defoliator, but it’s not too harsh and doesn’t dry the skin out. I use this in the shower once a week to just give my face a weekly deep scrub, to get rid of dirt, left over makeup and dead skin. It’s great and has the same NAOBAY fresh scent!
After a big scrub you want to use a good cleanser, my all time favourite is No7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Lotion; it’s great at softening skin and keeping it fresh and clean. I use this every day, twice a day! It isn’t too heavy on your skin, so is a great day time cleanser, it provides a great base for makeup.
I have combination skin, which is extremely hard to maintain, so I always use a toner! I use it on my T Zone, making sure I do all over my nose, chin and jaw line as they’re my oiliest parts! I’ve been using the Kueshi Pure&Clean Revitalizing Face Toner; it works really well and smells very fruity and summery!
You want to keep makeup looking light and fresh, so make sure your moisturiser does the same. You don’t want an oily, sticky base, otherwise your makeup won’t apply very well. I used the Skin Revivals Harmonising Balm, this is extremely light and very fresh. This is the perfect day time moisturiser, as it adds in the needed moisture, without making skin feel oily and wet, it soaks it very quickly and create the perfect base for makeup!
If you want your makeup to stay put all day, you need to use a primer, more importantly a very good primer.  I have tried a few primers, but this Laura Mercier one is my all time favourite. It’s a little pricey so I don’t use it every day, but it’s a must for festival makeup to keep it looking good all day/night.
For my base I used my No7 Stay Perfect Foundation in Cool Vanilla, which obviously has SPF 15 in which is a must for festivals! This provides perfect coverage without looking caked in makeup. The e.l.f complete coverage concealer in Light, for my pesky dark circles.
And the Rimmel Stay Matte powder in 001 Transparent, to take the shine out of my skin.
To brighten my skin up a bit, and to look a little more natural and festival ready, I used the Bonjour Bronzing Powder in 52, the e.l.f Blush Palette and my new favourite product the Jelly Pong Pong luminizer gel. This is my latest obsession and I can’t get enough of it. It’s like a highlighter but in a gel. So I just add the smallest amount to the apples of my cheeks and down the bridge of my nose, and it gives a really natural, brightening glow to your skin.
For my eyebrows I used the Seventeen Brow’s that! Brow Kit. It is amazing, it allows you to really shape your eyebrows and fill them in as dark or as light as you’d like them. Really easy to use and relatively quick!
Eyeshadow palettes are my weakness and these two are some of my favourites. The Benefit Cutie Craving kit was a present that my Brother got me for Christmas, I won’t bore you with the whole kit but it contained 4 eyeshadows, It’s Complicated, Nude Swings, Quick Look Busy and Thanks A Latte (obviously typical Benefit names). They all blend together to make really gorgeous shades, the peachy It’s Complicated is great for 2015 festivals! The Collection Smokey eye palette I used to deepen my eyeliner, to give a slight smokey finish.
I used the They’re Real Benefit mascara, which needs no introduction. The Avon Supershock Eyeliner in Black, which is extremely long lasting. And the Rimmel Exaggerated Eyeliner in black, which is a great shade and very easy to use. Absolutely love it, and it never fades!
And for my lips, I kept it natural with the NARS Satin Lip Pencil and the No7 BB Lips Beauty Balm in Ballerina. They blend so nicely together and provide a very natural but glossy colour.
I obviously had to apply one of my flash tattoos as they are a festival must! Teamed with a flower head band, colourful Kimono and some wellies and I was festival ready!
Are you going to any festivals this summer? What do you plan to do with your makeup?
